Capuchin monkeys often rub their bodies with a certain type of millipede. Laboratory tests show that secretions from the bodies of these millipedes are rich in two chemicals that are potent mosquito repellents, and mosquitoes carry parasites that debilitate capuchins. Some scientists hypothesize that the monkeys rub their bodies with the millipedes because doing so helps protect them from mosquitoes.

I think its between C and D, will go with D though, as C implies that there are still mosquitoes, less than the number in rainy seasosn, but still there.

C is correct.
D is out of context

Its cause effect type of argument. Cause = to protect them from mosquitoes; Effect = Rub millipedes;

C -> E (to strengthen...we have to look for Choices having C->E, Not E-> Not C, Not C-> Not E, Reverse ie E leading to C)

Choice C establishes that relationship (C->E type) so correct.

D talks about the eating habit ...not related to this relationship.

will opt for C.
