so [adj] as to [verb]

In the middle ages philisophers were so devoted to Aristotle as to neglect tthe evidence of their wun senses and accepted whatever he wrote.

That is wrong with so [adjective] as to [verb] .. IMO thats an accepted idiom.. any explanations ??

Another example : Global warming is becoming so extreme as to threaten the existence of life in future
