Should I retake the GMAT? Need advice on Rotman Admission

Should I retake the GMAT? Need advice on Rotman Admission Post Fri Jan 06, 2012 12:50 am
I recently scored 660/5 (47Q,34V) in GMAT. wondering if it is necessary to retake for a higher score.

My profile:
Canadian University, Finance major
GPA: cumulative 3.5, last year 3.8
Work Experience: 1 yr top 5 Canadian utilities company, 2 yrs in the banking industry. Both as financial analyst.
Will obtain the CMA designation before starting MBA.
have passed all CFA level 3 exam.

Target Schools: Rotman(first choice),Ivey,Queen's

Please give me some advice.Thank you all in advance!!!

You don't need to do better than that, you already have their average GMAT score. From here on, the essays and recomandations can push you through. Good luck!

AW score was just out few days ago and it is 4.5 Sad Should I retake?

Hi,

Thanks for your post. Given your GMAT is just one component of the application and your score is on par with their average I would not worry about it too much. Provided you have compelling stories for your essays you should be okay. Also, in regard to the 4.5 AWA, you need not worry too much about it as long as English is your native language.

Thanks for the advice Stacey. Could you please explain more about your take on AWA since English is not my first language?

Sure thing. The AWA is a great way for adcoms to assess the written communication skills of applicants. This can be particularly useful for applicants if English isn't their first language. The AWA is often thought to be a snapshot of communication skills, unlike essays where applicants can take the time to polish and perfect them. A low AWA score (below 4.5) could certainly cause the adcom to further scrutinize essays, the resume, GMAT verbal score, etc.
