Also, the score might be inflated one as I did not give AWA and reasoning.

Thanks

Hi Nishant,

Your Scaled Scores on this CAT show that you have a strong understanding of the overall content in the Quant and Verbal sections. Unfortunately, since you skipped the Essay and IR, we can't call this a realistic score result. You didn't face the endurance/fatigue issues that occur during a FULL exam, so we don't really know what your weaknesses are. To learn what they are (and fix them), we need realistic data; you should plan to take the ENTIRE CAT from now on.

In your earlier posts, you mentioned that you planned to study for 3 months. When are you planning to take the GMAT?

Thanks for your reply Rich!

Earlier I was planning to give the exam by mid October.
But since I was n't able to spend time due to some other factors, I have now postponed my decision to 2nd week of November so that I give myself some more time for the preparation and improvement. I haven't booked the exam yet.

I haven't yet started with Official Guide as of now and given just this practice test. Please let me know if it is realistic to give exam in another 35-40 days and then what should be the approach.

Thanks
Nishant

Hi nishaant,

At this point, any recommendations would be a bit general, since we're not working from complete data. I'd suggest that you take a FULL-length CAT (including the Essay and IR) and report back with your scores. It doesn't matter which CAT you use, just be sure to take the entire CAT. From THAT data, we'll be better able to talk through your plans.

Hi Nishant

When studying, try grouping five Quant questions together and spend no more more than ten minutes on them. You can use this strategy on both practice questions and simulation exams. If you fall behind schedule, make a strategic guess or two to catch up. Make strategic guesses on questions that you aren't confident on or that would take you much longer than two minutes to answer. That way, you buy yourself some time and you can spend more time on questions that you can confidently answer. Since running out of time is not an issue for you, go back and review if you find that you're moving ahead of schedule.

Apply the same strategy on the Verbal section, except give yourself nine minutes to answer five questions.

Here's a link to a few more blog posts on timing strategies: https://gmat.economist.com/search/blog_post?keys=timing.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestions Jessica!
I actually do ran out of time and guessed almost 7-8 ques on quant and 8-10 ques on verbal all RC.
But I will try to adopt this 5 ques in 10 mins strategy suggested by you.

Thanks
Nishant

Hi Rich and other gururs,

I gave the full exam.
My result was:
essay no score
IR 4/8
Quant 48/60
Verbal 34/60
Total 670

My last score was 680 quant 48 verbal 35
This time I was nt short of time though.

I always felt that verbal is my stronger part but both the times I had quant more than verbal.

Please suggest me further strategy now.
Also, I felt that Veritas tests are easier than actual GMAT. Is that so?

Thanks
Nishant

Hi All,

I gave the full Gmat exam today from Test 1 GMAT Prep and was really shocked to see a 590 on the exam.
Quant score : 45 Verbal Score: 27

Both my previous scores in Veritas CAT were 680 and 670.

This is a big difference in the score. I really feel dejected and confused here.
The difference in the level of exam also seemed to be very big.

I seek help from someone in the Forum please.

Thanks
Nishant

Hi Nishant,

Since this most recent score is considerably lower than your other scores, it's important to really define HOW you took each of these CATs, so that you can look for a pattern or possible explanation for what happened.

The first thing to notice is that this was a GMAC CAT while the other two were Veritas CATs. That point doesn't prove anything, in and of itself, so you have to go deeper into the details.

For example:
1) Did you take each CAT in its ENTIRETY (meaning you took the Essay and IR sections too)?
2) What were the Scaled Scores on each of the CATs?
3) What time of day did you start each CAT?
4) Was the location different?
5) Were there any distractions?
6) Was there any aspect of taking the CAT that would be considered unrealistic (pausing the CAT, listening to music, drinking coffee while taking it, etc.)?

7) After reviewing the CAT, how many questions did you get wrong because of a silly/little mistake? How many times did this happen on the other CATs?

It's possible that you just had a "bad day", but it's also possible that you're studying (and taking your CATs) in an inconsistent or incorrect manner. Whatever caused this score drop needs to be weeded out and removed.

Hi Rich,

I gave my first CAT without Essay and IR but 2nd and recent GMAC CAT I gave with essay and IR.
Everything on my test was same, location condition, no distraction apart from the time. I gave the first 2 in evening and this one in morning.

Full scores are as follows:

1. Score %le Correct
Quant 48 (of 60) 78% 59%
Verbal 35 (of 60) 74% 68%
Total 680 85 64%
Didnt give Essay and IR

2. Full exam

essay no score
IR 4/8
Quant 48/60
Verbal 34/60
Total 670

3.
Total : 590 on the exam.
Quant score : 45 Verbal Score: 27

I Didn't expect this score at all. Verbal and Quant both seemed to be tough as compared to Veritas exams. specially Verbal, Reading Comprehension seemed to be in an alien language but English. I was very much short of time in all IR, quant and verbal and blindly guessed so many questions too, specially RC.

I am really not able to figure out what went wrong for me.

Regards
Nishant
