A- correctly worded and seems best choice.
B- use of infinitive, wrong
C- which must precede the object
D- alters the meaning. stress on science of Economics.
E- alters the meaning of original sentence. |

A - if we remove "which for four decades was dominated by Keynesians" from the sentence then the sentence looks like - The science of economics who at first stressed the government’s ................ hence incorrect.
B - gives an impression that economics was meant to be dominated by Keynesians. hence incorrect.
C - "has, for four decades, been" incorrect construction.
E - changes the intended meaning of the sentence.
hence IMO D.
Thanks! |

D uses "has been..." -> present perfect..implying Keynesians have been dominating science of economics from last four decades uptil now....but if we see the last part of the sentence "...., but who were ultimately led away from .....", implies they no longer dominate....
Hence, D seems to be contradictory to the original meaning of the sentence.... |

well the last part of the sentence doesnot say any thing about the domination of the Keynesians rather it comments about the Keynesian's way of deriving solutions, based on government intervention, for the economy.
Thanks! |

D uses present perfect and changes the meaning.
IMO A is the best of the lot. _________________ Please do not post answer along with the Question you post/ask

well officieal answer and explanation is :
ANSWER- D
A, B, C - incorrect - lacking independent clause - in other words the independent clause is lacking the primary verb (The science of economics)
E - incorrect - use of past tense is wrong - we need to use present perfect tense here
I do not understand what they are trying to say...can anybody explain in simple terms |

All the choices except D and E lack the main verb. The sentence is not complete without the main verb.
A - The science of economics, which for four decades was dominated by Keynesians
B - The science of economics, that was to be dominated by Keynesians
C - The science of economics, one which has, for four decades, been dominated by Keynesians
D - The science of economics is one that for four decades has been dominated by Keynesians
E - The science of economics for four decades, is one that was dominated by Keynesians
D & E completes the sentence. E uses the past tense. Since the activity is continuous for four decades, usage of "has been" is appropriate. |
