I am planning on taking the test within a few weeks and I was wondering how early must I register to guarantee specific test date?

I think it depends... Some test centers might be busier than others... However, I was pretty upset I did not think of registering earlier, since I ended up having to take the test two weeks later than I had originally planned. I say book one month in advance just to be sure.
