Is the answer for first SC A?

since the tense is past, 'was' is correct
usage of have been is correct, since fossils is plural

The answer should use right words to refer the number of drive-ins in town.

IMO 'Fewer.. As many' is the correct construction for referring to 'number' of the drive-ins.

Whats the OA?

For Question 1, you need "fossils ... have". Eliminate B and C as they
use "has"

D and E use "having (been) beached" - incorrect use of verb. That leaves
us with A.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For Question 2, is it C?

You need countable nouns - so fewer is needed. B has "as many" which
sounds awkward

since we are talking about one - quarter of 4000, it is countable and hence fewer is more appropriate

a) less is not correct
b) fewer than as many is correct
c) usage of 'amount' to refer to number is wrong
d) same as A
e) same as A

so B? whats OA?

experts..do correct if u see any anomalies!

Still no OA posted! I will weigh-in.

It seems like no one's really confused about question1 -- OA is A.

As for question 2, the answer is B. You need the word fewer because it's a countable noun like someone said earlier. 'As many' is perfectly acceptable to use because it refers to the original 4,000 theaters. It's just like saying "There are fewer than one third as many Panda bears in China as there were last century."

What is the OA for question B ?

I would go with B too as it expresses the meaning with concision.

Guys, Can somebody please explain why the OA for 1 is A? How can was be used for a plural noun fossils? Confusing....hmm..

'Was' does not correspond to 'fossils', it corresponds to the whale itself. The whale was subsequently butchered, leaving fossils behind, which were then found by scientists.
