(A) deaths, injury to thousands, and seriously damaging
(B) deaths and injuring thousands, and serious damage to
(C) deaths, thousands who are injured, as well as seriously damaging
(D) deaths and thousands of injuries, as well as doing serious damage to
(E) deaths, thousands are injured, and they do serious damage to

Please explain

Yeah. You are right. But, why is it "thousands of injuries"? It should have been "injuring thousands". The meaning of both these phrases vary by a huge margin.

I believe it is D).

This is a parallel structure.

...causing X, Y and Z. where X, Y and Z all have to have similar gramatical structure. X is hundreds of deaths. Y cannot be injuring thousands because that is not in parallel with X. Y must be thousands of injuries.
