Rotman vs Carlson (UMN)

Hello All,

I have admit to both Rotman and Carlson. While I have full scholarship to Carlson, I have none for Rotman. I do want to settle abroad after MBA (I come from India). I want to primarily be involved in business development projects in tech domains.

I heard that it is easier to get a PR in Canada than it is in US. Dilemma Sad

Can anyone give me some insights to help me make a more informed decision?

It depends on how you feel about the schools themselves, could you see yourself at each campus? Have you visited both? That can be a big factor, as can statistics such as the percentage of candidates landing jobs after graduation and the average salaries of graduates.

If it were me I'd probably choose Carlson just because a full scholarship is really hard to come by, and if your performance at school is consistent throughout your time there, you should have no problem finding a job. It is, after all, a Top 30 school and therefore should definitely get you a pretty good education.

No, I did not visit either of them because I live in India. But I am not leaning towards neither school, as far as academics go.

I am confused with PR-settling down in Rotman vs Scholarship and greater job market in Carlson.

Well, best and wisest would be a visit... You are making a HUGE leap here, and you don;t even know what the schools look like!!! Smile
So yes it's expensive and no you don't have time.... but maybe you can do it anyway? I think it's worth it, because you will come back with your answer.
Otherwise, SPEAK to people who have been at the one and the other and who are in your field so that they can answer your questions...
And finally, a FULL scholarship makes a HUGE difference (unless you're super rich, which I hope you are Wink ), and the difference in ranking and prestige is not all that enormous, so I'd be leaning towards Carlson.

Hello, Thanks for the reply. Two things -
Carlson does say it has good placements. But what about international students on study visa? How many have been able to convert it to an H1B?

Secondly, 'ranking and prestige' I think Rotman graduates would be preferred over carlson graduates in Canada Smile

Have to be honest, Work Visas are not really my specialty. I know lots of folks that have successfully gotten them and landed jobs in the US after their studies, but to dig deeper into the question you might ask a Visa specialist or consult with the Career Center of the school.
