Retake Gmat or GRE? Post Mon May 28, 2012 3:36 am
Guys,

I just took the gmat and I scored 680 (q47,V36). I felt the questions was very similar to the gmat prep test and no where close to what you see on mgmats especially for quant. I'm quite disappointed that I scored sub 700. This score is probably not enough fot my target schools. Here are my options. Please let me know what you think

1. Retake the exam - If yes, how soon should I take it? Is a break recommended before I resume studying or should I continue right now? i'm quite burnt our right now and I postponed a lot of work travel which I need to do now so I wouldnt mind a break but will the negatively affect my preparation? Any tips?

2. Take GRE - A friend of mine was in a similar situation as me and instead of retaking gmat, he took GRE which he thought was slightly easier than GMAT (he got a call from harvard). Is there any disadvantage in submitting a gre score? Any view on this?

Hi, there. I'm happy to add my 2¢. Smile

First of all, here's a blog about GRE vs. GMAT
http://magoosh.com/gmat/2011/top-3-considerations-when-deciding-to-take-the-gmat-or-gre/
My personal feeling is -- the GMAT is a harder test, so stick with that --- you want to show the business schools you can excel on the harder test. Hold yourself to the higher standard, so they feel they can hold you to a higher standard. That's the way to impress.

Second, if you do decide to take the GMAT again then
1) you will need to consider Integrated Reasoning. Here's a free IR eBook I wrote:

You will also find other helpful articles on
a) our free GMAT blog: http://magoosh.com/gmat/, and
b) our free GRE blog: http://magoosh.com/gre/

2) If you decide to to the GMAT again, I highly recommend Magoosh. We have a score guarantee that would be relevant for you: if you use our materials, you get at least a 50 point increase (to at least 730!) or your money back. The score guarantee wouldn't be relevant if you decide to go for the GRE, but we can still help prepare you for that.

I hope all this helps.

Hi,i suggest u retake the GMAT since it is accepted by majority of the schools.I applied with my GRE score of 1420 to 3 colleges(Cornell,Olin,Wisconsin) in 3rd round.Got an interview call from all 3 of them, however couldn't convert.I suggest to take a break of 1 month since you are burnt out and re appear by September.
