A certain high school is considering changing its policy concerning tardiness. Currently, any student who arrives after 8 a.m., when the first period begins, is marked late for the day. The proposed policy would allow students to arrive any time between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., when first period ends, without being marked late.

The adoption of this policy would most likely prove problematic for the academic performance of students _________.

(A) who are late three times more often than the average student

(B) who rely on school buses to get to school because their parents, who work, cannot drive them

(C) who, because of their good grades, have a free period during the first period of the day

(D) who, as part of their curriculum, are required to work in collaborative groups during each period before lunch

(E) who frequently meet with teachers before first period for extra help with subjects in which they are having difficulty

OA: D

if the curriculum requires to work in groups during each period then different arrival time will cause problems in formation of groups
and hence would most likely prove problematic for the academic performance of students

[quote="rahul.s"]A certain high school is considering changing its policy concerning tardiness.

Premise : school considering tardiness policy change
Premise : student arriving after 8 am (first period) is marked late
Premise : proposed policy would let students arrive between 8 and 8.30

(A) who are late three times more often than the average student
Incorrect : Not mentioned in the premises

(B) who rely on school buses to get to school because their parents, who work, cannot drive them
Incorrect : Out of scope

(C) who, because of their good grades, have a free period during the first period of the day
Incorrect : Students good grades is irrelevant to the argument above

(D) who, as part of their curriculum, are required to work in collaborative groups during each period before lunch
Correct : If they are required to work in collaborative groups during EACH period before lunch and if they come after 8 (when first period starts) it will not let them work in collaborative groups for the time they are let and hence it would definitely prove problematic for their academic performance.

(E) who frequently meet with teachers before first period for extra help with subjects in which they are having difficulty
Incorrect : It will not hamper their academic performance because they can always meet the teachers at some other time during the day.
