Beat The GMAT

Hi,

I just took the GMAT and ended up with a score of 690

Here's my profile:
Nationality: Indian
X - 75.5%
XII - 83.1%
BTech - 60.6% (from the Dhirubhai Ambani Institute, DAIICT)
Work Ex: 2.5 years at a startup in IT (software developer)
Extra Currics: Not really much

With the profile mentioned above can you please tell me what are my chances of getting an admission at the following BSchools for a Full-Time MBA course

Nanyang University, Singapore
National University of Singapore, NUS, Singapore
Melborne Business School, Australia
Australian School of Business, Australia
University of Texas, McCombs, USA

Should I consider retaking the GMAT or do I have fair chances of getting into one of these?

Please advice.

Thanks for your question. I'm not an expert on Asian / Australian business schools but can talk a bit about Texas.

University of Texas, McCombs, USA

Your GMAT is good (though, unfortunately by Texas standards, not "great"). The work experience seems a bit thin both in terms of time and quality (I'm inferring that you are more on the techincal side than the management side). The lack of XCs probably won't kill you but it would be nice if you could find some.

I'm not sure I understand your undergrad grading system; do you have something like class rank which is fairly uinversally understood?

Hi Paxton,

Thanks a lot for your prompt reply.

My undergrad had a GPA grading system, on a scale of 4.0
mine is 2.03 / 4.0 which converts to a 60.6%

But the grading is not the same as it is done in the US though the scale is the same.
A 2.03 / 4.0 is about the class average out of a batch of 240

And the university I graduated from ranks among the top tier universities in India, after the IITs.

In terms of extra currics:
I am planning to join an NGO in a few days but not sure if that would count for this year's admission.
Am a mensa member, if that helps any Very Happy

So if I'm not wrong, I'm better off ruling out McCombs and concentrating on the others.
Please advice.

I'm not really an expert on McComb's but if your research backs you up then you are probably correct. Remember, though, that even if you come in below the mean for GPA and GMAT at a school that DOES NOT mean that you are not competitive. It is a pretty holistic process at most places.
