Profile Evaluation

by crd4d » Tue Sep 06, 2016 9:46 am
Just took the GMAT, and got a 710 (49 Q, 38 V). I graduated from UVa with a 2.96 GPA. I will be 29 at the time of matriculation, and am a white male. I have worked in a semi-related field, and will have about 6.5 years of experience in Anti-Money Laundering. Here are the schools I'm targeting:

Stretch- LBS, Darden
Target- Kenan-Flagler, McCombs, Owen, Goizueta, Marshall, Fisher

I'm planning on applying to LBS, McCombs, Owen, and Marshall round 1.

Thanks for any advice

Hey there,
I'd love to help you out but without more info it's gonna be hard. Where do you work? What do you do? How quickly have you advanced? Do you have any leadership? What are your great achievements? Do you have notable community service or extra curriculars?

Basically, get me as much info as you can and repost it here, or just contact us directly on our website: https://admissionado.com/free-consultati ... n=mba_blog

Thank you for the reply.

I work at E*TRADE Financial in the Anti-Money Laundering Division. I have been there for 5.5 years, and have advanced consistently. I started in the Specialist role and have been promoted to Senior Specialist and then Supervisor. It is the highest I can go in my department. Within the team I have been asked to train people, as well as being a liaison with our Hong Kong office. I am also part of the Emergency team that helps the company during fire drills and other emergency situations.

Community service/extracurricular- youth sports coach, Habitat for Humanity, Junior Achievement(helping kids learn how to manage their money).

I hope this helps, and look forward to hearing from you.

Hey there,
So your profile is pretty interesting and has lots of potential. You come from a good school with a solid GMAT interesting work experience at home and abroad, and quite strong volunteer work.

Basically, I like it :)

Of course you do have that pesky GPA, which might be a hindrance. Do you have any good reasons/excuses why your GPA was so low? Something you could make a story around?

Other than that your self-evaluation is pretty honest. I think LBS will be a stretch Darden too (but easier). And with your current list, I feel like you could get an admit of three.

The only thing is I don't quite get our school list (i.e. why you chose your schools). What are your goals? Finance? Regulation? something else? I mean from your profile I would guess finance/government might be the way to go, which would naturally lead you to finance heavy schools (NYU, Yale, Johnson, Tepper, Columbia) and maybe GW.

Anyhow give me some feedback on that, and I may be able to advise.

And feel free to drop us a line for a more full-on Free Consultation: https://admissionado.com/free-consultati ... n=mba_blog
