Thank you for all your help.

I am 25 years old , Asian, female

Master of Arts with first division
GMAT: 720 - Q49 V38 AWA 6.0

Work Experience: Upon matriculation, I will have 3 years of work ex

1 year in market research (under WPP), as a qualitative researcher
Accomplishments:
Handled domestic and international clients
Active during analysis and presentation
Received accolades for moderation

2.2 years in family business: commodity trading (foodgrains in the north eastern region of India)
Accomplishments:
Because it is a small firm, I am active in all the functions from finance to operation
Since joined, have opened another branch

Future Goal
Short - term: return back to the firm and introduce a packaged products(of commodity) line too

Long - term: along with previous, i want to start my own organization that functions as a bridge between academics and NGO's

Reason for MBA: a non-business background , want to be prepared for future challenges

Things i want to ask,
I'm looking at Michigan Ross, Haas, U T Austin . Is this achievable, assuming good essays
Is being Indian and being into a family business over-represented in the applicant pool. Please do let me know your thoughts

Hello,

It looks like you'd be qualified for the programs you mention (considering them reasonable reaches). Being Indian you are definitely in an over-represented group, but you have some factors that make you stand out, such as your family business (its nature, not the fact of it being a family business). With strong applications I believe you'd have a chance at the schools you mention.

The challenge I see is different - a lack of connection between your current work, your short-term goals, and your long-term goals. They seem to be three separate things with little on the surface anyway that weaves them into a coherent picture. This point is something you should work out before you write the applications.

Best regards,
