Hey there: .
Well YOU need to tell US which countries you want to apply to. There are lots of them Smile

Other than that, more info can help!
Where do you work? What do you do? How quickly have you advanced? Do you have any leadership? What are your great achievements? Do you have notable community service or extra curriculars? Which school did you graduate from?

Best,
Jon Frank

Dear Jon,

I have worked with 2 Technology companies so far in my 10 years of IT career. Designation-wise I have been promoted thrice but role-wise I had started with software development and in progression worked in almost all departments of software applications which includes administration, testing, technical lead positions for various clients and locations. I have international and client handling experience for 2.5 years in US and Europe.

I have lead various teams being a module lead and engagement lead for 5 years now. I am able to acquire few awards as part of rewards and recognitions as well.

I have graduated from India and as part of extra curricular, I have participated in technical recruitments, professional trainings, corporate training and supporting family business for some time now.

I am looking forward for Canada business schools targeting consulting jobs.
GMAT - 650.

Any feedback/opinions are welcome.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
So it sounds like you are just interested in Canadian schools? From your first message it sounded like what other schools besides canadian schools should you consider!

You've got an interesting profile though with 10 years exp. it's above the average. May I ask your age? You might need to consider EMBA's or something like a Sloane Fellows program.

But in Canada what I would suggest for you in U of T Rotman or Schulich in Toronto, or Ivey School of Business in London, or Queens in Kingston. However there could be some other great options but would need to know your profile a little bit better. If you care to speak with us for a better fit and assessment, feel free to set up a free 30 minute consultation at www.fortunaadmissions.com/freeconsultation

All the best,

Hi Melissa,

Thanks a lot for your valuable insights.

Currently, I am 32 years old. I am looking forward for Canadian schools only because I want to work & settle in abroad after graduation. Since, visa norms are little reluctant in Canada, I would like to try my luck over there. However, given the great programs at MIT or at Europe, I would definitely go for it if my gmat score seems okay?

Profile wise, I did my undergraduation in computer science, hence I joined Technology companies. However, I took little more time to judge every aspect of technology by working with different clients and in different technologies. I have worked for IT consulting companies but with various banking, and telecommunications clients across US and Europe.

With enough technology, I would like to get into business/management consulting to bridge the gap between business and technical aspects of the organizations.

Academically, I have 8.04 as my degree grade point average in India. I have a paramilitary family background. Due to frequent transfers, studies were somewhat impacted, so government has provided scholarships to high scorers during school and college. I have been awarded scholarships for 7 years during school and 4 years during college. Additionally, I have scored in top 5% in engineering entrance exam.

During these 10 years of work experience, I have gained significant international exposure of US and Europe markets for 2.5 years. I have bagged few awards - applause award, blockbuster award, and extra mile awards. I have significant experience in leadership roles as well.

I am into volunteering for different social causes such as providing education to underprivileged children, helping cancer patients to learn basics, helping corporate low earning staffs to register for scholarships for better education, supported environmental cause such as greenpeace India. Also, I have participated in corporate recruitments and trainings. I have imparted technical trainings at various training centers and at organizations. I am involved in family business as well for couple of years now.

Please let me know which other schools/programs I should consider beside Canadian programs given this profile.

Thanks a lot for your valuable feedback.

Thanks for the details. I'm afraid with your years of experience and age, full time MBA programs are more of a long shot as you have to think about how old you will be at the start of each program. As I mentioned I might consider the sloan fellows programs which are kind of those in between a full time MBA and EMBA, so they have them at LBS, MIT and Stanford.

If you are set on a full time MBA, some schools that are more lenient towards more 'mature' students are IMD in Switzerland, or even Duke or Yale in the US however for the latter two, you would need really high gmat scores.

If you'd like to talk it through a little more over the phone for 30 minutes or so we'd be happy to help and narrow your search down a bit. Would that be of interest? My colleague Matt knows so much about every MBA program - he's an incredible resource so could be a great person to speak to. You can reach him at info@fortunaadmissions.com.

All the best

Thanks Melissa for the options.
I do have lots of experience but I would like to go for full time mba instead of executive ones as I will be switching domains.
It will be a long shot for sure but with the given gmat score, which programs should I attempt to fill the application form?

Thanks a lot!

Hi there,

I think you can benefit from reviewing our thoughts on the different types of MBA programs and how they help students in different parts of their career. If you're still tied to FT MBAs at that point, take a look at the latter half of these programs. We've recently helped 3 candidates gain acceptance into 5 of the programs on this list with profiles similar to yours. 2 of our candidates had options of where to accept admittance. Let us know if you'd like to chat about your school selection or how we can help you with your upcoming applications. Best of luck!

Hey Sandip,
So overall the base of your profile is fine. And your GMAT is solid enough for Canadian MBAs.
However the main thing for you to work on is story. Right now you have some major obstacles to overcome: You are an Indian/Male/Tech candidate with an average GMAT and who is a bit on the older side. The Adocms will likely have lots of similar applicants, and then the question would be: why should they choose YOU?

And you need to give them a reason: Either through great stories, a more interesting background, more precise goals, or perhaps all of the above Smile

The important thing is: don't be normal!

Competition is stiff in your demographic. And so you need to do anything you can to stand out.

Best,
Jon Frank

Hi Jon,

Thanks for your observative reply.
Considering all facts, should I reconsider gmat again?
What score would make my profile strong?
Any suggestions and feedback is most welcome!

Thanks a lot,
Sandip
