Hello,

Could you please evaluate my profile? I would be really grateful.

I have no idea what are my real chances or whether to retake the GMAT.

I intend to apply in 2014 R1 to LBS, IESE and Booth. I would love to apply to Wharton or Columbia as well but I don't know if these two are out of my scope (specially because of my GMAT score)

Age - 27

Gender - Male

Nationality - Spanish

GMAT - 660 (Q49 V32) - AWA 5 - IR 6

TOEFL 109

Bachelor's Degree on Economics GPA 3.3 (top 5%)

Master's Degree on Applied Economics GPA 3.3 (top 10%)ranked)

M.Sc. in Stock Exchange and Financial Markets

CFA Charterholder with the three exams passed on the first attempt.

Experience

- 3 Summer internship in a bank (top 2 bank in Spain)
- 2 Summer internships in an Investment Boutique
- After the 2nd Summer Internship in the Investment Boutique and with my Master's Degree already finished I was hired as a permanent employee, specifically as a Junior Portfolio Manager within the Asset Management Desk. I was there for 1.5y.

- After my M.Sc. in Stock Exchange and Financial Markets I was hired by a bank in a Front Office support department as an assistant. 1y later they promoted me to Analyst in a Trading Support Department. 2y later they promoted me as the Trading Support manager

- TOTAL (without internships): about 60 months of xp

Extra-Curricular:

- I was the student representative for my university class for three years.

- During my bachelor's degree period I was the External Relationship Manger of the AIESEC branch in my region. It is a self-funded student association and I was the funding responsible. My task were contacting small and mid size companies which would like to fund us in exchange of advertising. Additionally, we also managed internships for the university students in those companies.

- I created a blog for the Asset Department of the Investment Boutique I was working for with all the funds advertising info.

- I founded a small consulting firm in 2009 for which I was the Vice President and which is running now a days

- I have just founded a company which acts as an intermediate between commodity manufacturers and retailers. It is in its embrionary stage yet.

- I have collaborated with a small academy teaching basic economics for kids (for free)

I apologize for all this information, I've just tried to provide with all the relevant facts.
I would like to figure out what top schools could be in my scope and if Wharton and Columbia would be too much. I am interested in top finance programs.

Thank you very much in advance for all your help in advance.

Hello there good sir,
No need to apologize for all this info. Especially not when it is extremely helpful for me to evaluate you.

Okay, so let me first give you the quick rundown: Work experience is great,TOEFL is great, grades are very good, but can you get a higher GMAT?

Because that's what it boils down to. You have a great profile, but applying to a top 10 school with 60 points less than the average GMAT is not likely to work. So you have two choices here, I think. 1. Retake the GMAT 2. Moderate your school list. Each will have its own advantages and disadvantages depending on your current situation, your desire to do the GMAT soon, and your capacity to score higher on the GMAT. But it is definitely worth considering. Even a 30 point increase in your case would be a MASSIVE help. Because otherwise your profile seems really fantastic.

What do you think?

Thank you very much Jon!

I think that I am able to get a higher GMAT score thus retaking would be the best option now I know that I have a decent profile for a top10 program. I am sure I can't improve my quant score too much but I think I could improve that of the verbal.

A couple of questions more, does a strong quant score improve my chances with a low GMAT? I mean, my GMAT score split definitely favors the quant part and I don't know if this would help in the case I can't get a higher global score.

And finally, do I belong to an underrepresented minority being male and spanish?

Thanks and best regards.

The split is infinitely less important than the score. Crack a 720 and a whole new world opens up for you, so right now your main task is to dot hat, even if you need a lot of time to do it.
