Profile Evaluation and Career Move Post Sun Apr 22, 2012 10:25 am
Hi,

I am a prospective Female/Indian MBA candidate with a focus on entrepreneurship looking to apply for Fall 2013. I haven't given my GMAT yet, but expecting something around 720.

Following is my brief background :
I completed my Bachelors and Masters in Computers worked at a Silicon Valley Startup which grew from 100->300 since I joined. I have had various roles in the company from Test Engineer, Development and some customer interfacing roles. I am the founder of a non profit which is at its growth stages, been just 8 months but has made some meaningful progress . I am about to change jobs and have 2 offers -> Startup with 2 founders...and another Startup which is backed by great VC's( size 100 ) and has a great team( MIT, Stan alums ).

I have 2 questions primarily :
1. Do you think I should join the smaller startup where I will do engineering work as well as other things like Sales, Branding etx and this would help me eventually in my long term plans of starting something of my own? Or do you think I should join the 100 people startup which has a good name associated with it. I am more tilted towards the former as I think it will help me a lot but do business schools really care?
2. My target schools are Tuck, Columbia, Stern, Haas, Ross, Kellog and Booth. What are my chances?

Hi VaderTrader and thanks for your post.

It sounds like you're on the right track and that you're thinking about all of your next steps which is exactly what you should be doing! In terms of your two job choices, I think that you should try to determine which position will be the most enriching. Which position will put you in a better spot for your career, should business school not be an option? The most compelling applicants are those who are really passionate about what they do, and can articulate their career path, both past and future. This will help to make you the most interesting person you can be when you apply.

Feel free to contact us at info@clearadmit.com for a more detailed, free initial assessment.

Best,

Deena
