Hello consultants,

I would love to get advice as to what schools I should be considering as well as whether my current selection is too aggressive. Here is a summary of my stats:

Female, 29
GPA 3.0 - from UC Davis
BS in management science economics & minor in math
low GPA because I worked a lot to pay for school and had to finish in 3 years.

GMAT - 720

5 years of work experience:
3 years in investment banking, one of those years was in the firm's European office.

2 years in corporate finance and strategy for a PE firm, currently a Finance Manager.

extracurriculars:
-on the board of small non-profit LGBT theater, have been volunteering with this theater to do the AIDs walk every year for 3 years, recently joined the board. On the marketing committee.

-triathelete

-founded a book club that currently has 14 members, organizing meetings and meeting materials every month

-member of an womens knowledge sharing investment club, helping women to learn the basics of managing their own finances and leveraging the stock market.

-member of several business affiliations in my industry.

-Chair of professional committee for a my business fraternity (co-ed) in college

-partner in a small business venture

Interests:
-green building and energy efficiency in the built environment (my industry is real estate)
-entrepreneurship

My target schools are Tuck, Haas, Chicago and Stanford.

Please tell me what other schools I should be considering and whether I am competitive at Stanford and Haas or whether I shouldn't bother applying...

Thank you!!

Okay, you have a lot going for you, in spite of the low GPA. Just make sure you explain the circumstances behind that, and point to other things (like GMAT) that'll help convince the AdComm that academics shouldn't be a concern.

Work experience - looks great
EC involvement - ditto

As for your selection, I'd say you're competitive at all those schools. For Tuck, they definitely like a personal touch, so you should be prepared to put that additional effort into your app, i.e. by contacting current students, visiting, etc. For Stanford, well, they like a good story. So if you have some interesting stories in your background that lend themselves well to their essay questions, then that'll serve you well. Chicago and Haas are good bets for you as well. Have you thought about Yale? That might be another one to think about, given your interests. Wharton as well.

I hope that helps - good luck!

best,
Tasha
