Topic: Profile evaluation & advice Please

My background:

27 yr/old white male
Undergrad: BS in Mechanical Engineering (GPA-2.97)
GMAT: 660 (Might take a 2nd time)
Professional Experience: 5 yrs experience in medical device manufacturing. Started as manufacturing engineer progressing to business unit team leader. Responsible for the daily operation of unit generating $100M+ sales, 60+ direct reports, P&L management.

I am applying to the following for fall 2010 admission:
1.) University of Washington (Seattle)
2.) University of Colorado (Boulder)
3.) University of California at Davis
4.) Rutgers Newark (part-time)
5.) NYU part-time (Stretch school)

How would you rate my chances getting into the abovementioned programs? Would you recommend I look into any additional programs?

hey mckagan,

I'm not an admission expert or nothing of the sort. I'm just like you, a regular applicant hopeing to get an admission to one of the schools of my choice. After having interviewed at one of my "dream" b-schools this weekend, I've developed the following perspcetives.

1. you really have to visit the schools and talk to current students to know exactly what your're getting yourself into. visit the schools/class before the interview, seek out alums in your area, have a lunch with them, etc., to get the real feel for the school. attending the school info seesions would help some too.

2. the schools are really looking for applicants that would "fit" with their programs. finding this right "fit" is really really important.

3.don't rely too much on school's reputation, avg gmat score/gpas etc. the overall presentation of your application is real crucial. schools ar really making conscious efforts to evaluate your candidacy employing holistic approach. imo interview is just as important as your hard-earned gmat score.


btw i think you have a great shot at every single school you listed..

Hey Bruce, thanks for the feedback! Thanks for sharing your experience and some of your view points.

All I can do is try. I'm really zeroing in on U of Wash and UC Davis. Each school has a really good program and the atmosphere of each seems to align with my personality.

Thanks again! Would any consultants be able to supply some feedback?
