Scientists today accept that the increased severity of hurricanes in the last 10 years has been a result of warmer water in the Caribbean, which feeds the storms as they pass over it by a mechanism not completely understood. Thus these severe hurricanes are yet another evidence of global warming.

Which of the foll if true most strengthen the argument?
a. accurate stasticts on the warming of earth do not go back more than 100 years
b. Scientists have not discovered a new under sea current, fueled by an under sea volcano,which could have funneled warmer water into carribbean
c. The artic ice cap r loosing 3 feet of circumference each year
d. A new modelling computer program projects that severity of hurricanes wil increase over next 10 years
e. Some scientists believe they will soon prove a mechanism by which a storm picks up energy from warm water based on convection

I think the ans given by PR is wrong
I will post the ans after some replies

The answer is "B"

You need to identify the conclusion, assumption, and evidence.
(C --> E+ A)

- Conclusion: severe hurricanes are yet another evidence of global warming
- Assumption: the severity of the hurricanes is a result of the warmer water in the Carribean

What we need is more evidence to strengthen the assumption. The only answer choice that discusses what makes the water in the Carribean warmer would be B.

The other choices bring in new information that wasn't discussed in the paragraph...."E" kind of does but doesn't discuss the Carribean which is a specific we need to make the conclusion more believable.

You're looking for what would strengthen the argument. One way to strengthen the argument is to eliminate another possible explanation. That's what answer B does, so it strengthens.

E does not strengthen the argument, because it does not state a fact. It only states that the scientists think that soon they'll have a fact. That's not enough to help an argument.
