Kindly recommend in some improvements
The following appeared in a medical magazine:
"Art and music have long been understood to have therapeutic effects for individuals who suffer from either physical or mental illnesses. However, most doctors rarely recommend to patients some form of art or music therapy. Instead, doctors focus almost all of their attention on costly drug treatments and invasive procedures that carry serious risks and side-effects. By focusing on these expensive procedures rather than low-cost treatments such as art and music therapy, doctors are doing a disservice to their patients and contributing to the rising cost of health care in the United States."
Discuss how well reasoned you find this argument. Point out flaws in the argument's logic and analyze the argument's underlying assumptions. In addition, evaluate how supporting evidence is used and what evidence might counter the argument's conclusion. You may also discuss what additional evidence could be used to strengthen the argument or what changes would make the argument more logically sound.
YOUR RESPONSE:
The magazine claims that doctors are focusing on the expensive treatments for physical and mental illness and thus increasing the healthcare costs and doing disservice to their patients. To substantiate the claim, the author states the belief that arts and music are the low cost treatments and have some therapeutic effects on individuals with mental and physical illnes. Furthermore, author states that the procedures used by doctors to treat the mental and physical illness are invasive and have severe side-effects. The argument, which is full of gaps, is based on dubious assumptions and fails for several reasons.
The biggest fallacy of the argument is the generalization of a belief that arts and music has therapeutic effects for individuals who suffer from either physical or mental. Perhaps, it might be true but author needs to provide evidences that music and arts has helped the mental and physical illness. Author needs to perform a comparative study between the drug treatments and art and music treatments and discuss the success rates for each treatment. May be, the success rate of Art and Music is very less than drug treatments.
Secondly, the cost factor for Arts and Music is assumed to be low. To provide the treatment with Arts and Music, the doctors needs to invest time and money in learning this new methods of treatment which i purely experimental and might be effective on case-by-case basis. There is no definite approch to this treatment, since every patient might react differently to different kind of music. The author needs to discuss the standard procedures applicable to each type of disease. For example a patient with Down Syndrome can be treated with one piece of classical music and another patient with Schizophrenia might be treated by a different type of music such as jazz.
Thridly, author need to provide more information about the side-efects and risks about the treatment that dosctors aprescibing to patient. If the side-effects are very minimal but it is helping patients to do their day-ot-day activities, mingle in society then there is nothing wrong in the prescribing such medicines. This itself will help to identify of the doctors are really doing disservice.
In sum, the argument a hasty generalization and fails to convince that music and arts are really an alternative treatment for patients with mental and physical illness. To strenghten the argument, the author needs to provide a comaprative study about the success rates of the music and arts treatment, cost of comparison of the two treatments and also provide information that side effects and risks of drug treatments are severe.

ESSAY QUESTION:
“Despite the convenience of distance learning and online educational programs, they will never replace in-class instruction.”
Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the position stated above. Support your viewpoint using reasons and examples from your own experience, observations, or reading.
YOUR RESPONSE:
The opinion that the covenience of distance learning and online educational programs will never replace in-class instruction is controversial one. Many people might disagree that in class instruction is the best way to learn the subject but in today's advancment in technology and science has really made this learning easy. However, I would like to disagree with them and argue that the long distance learning and online education wiill one day replace the in-class instructions.
With the advent of technology and internet, the distance learning has become popular concept of learning. Today, the life is busy, competitive and time is the biggest constraint. People are hittling glass ceilings very soon and need for further education is increasing. The enrollments in the business schools and colleges all around the world is increasing. The economies of the countries are becoming global and hence there is demand for new institutions. New institutions mean,s more investment in infrastructure, limited availability of admission and increased maintenance costs. All these factors can be substantiated with the distance learning programs.
Many full time course require people to leave their jobs and juggling part-time course with jobs is quiet a challenge. People who are lacking time and money can take advantage of the online courses. The cost of tution is reduced. People have the liberty to decide the time to take these courses as required.
Another advantage to this apporach is the opportunity to collaborate with people all around the world. There are discussion forums that help people to present their points and discuss the case studies. Many people might say that the distance learning still lacks the persoal touch of the instructor, the knowledge and experience that instructors bring to the classroom. But I would like to say that with online courses and distance learning programs, these instructor would bring their knowledge to the wide audience. Technology has given us the facility to webcast these lectures so that people with distance learning might share the same experience. These lectures can be recorded and revisited even at later times. This cannot be done in the class room courses.
Hence with so much growth in the wireless technologies and internet the distance learning programs might one day replace the in-class instruction. It not only helps more number of people but also reduces the cost that universities incur for in-class instructions. There can be some disadvantages such as lack of personality development, getting personal attention and requirement to be self motivated and disciplined in the approach while taking these online course but it can be overcome.
