C is wrong because "where life was slow and relaxed" is modifying "years" instead of "Tahiti." Still would like to know what's wrong with E, though.

in D - readjusting is modifier for hectic pace, so both the words should be close.
in E. hectic pace is placed at theend, so its not very clear what "readjusting" is modifying - Hope I got it correct

in E it is not clear what hectic pace is modifying, Paul Gauguin or Paris. That's why E is incorrect

and for B, I think Paul Gauguin needs to come closer to ''Having lived for several years in Tahiti'' (who lived? Paul Gauguin..............)

E seems to say that "hectic pace was the reason for Paul's return to Paris".
Hence E wrong.

I would like to know use of HAD in this sentence.

D) Having lived for several years in Tahiti, where life was slow and relaxed, Paul Gauguin had difficulty readjusting to the hectic pace of Paris upon his return.

I believe first LIVES then one he is talking about RETURNING.

I confused about order.

here had is not a past perfect tense rather its simple past without any participle form and means posession
