There is a lot of good stuff here! From my experience with previous clients in your industry, I know that you will have built a lot of team leadership, which you didn't mention here but which will be a great asset for you. Also the international exposure of the maritime industry, working with multinational teams both on-board ships and in global harbors, will give you a lot of great stories to tell.

What I'd like to see: a clearer sense of your goals and why you are applying for the MBA at this point in your life. For US schools, we need to see why an international MBA experience is so crucial for you, both personally and in terms of your post-MBA aspirations. Without a sense of your post-MBA goals, it's hard for me to point you towards any specific schools or programs.

The other thing I'd like to see is a higher GMAT, which would open up more options for you in terms of MBA programs. In my experience, people with your profile tend to need a powerful GMAT boost to enhance their credibility, along with well-researched, b-school-specific goals. With those components in line, you could make a strong candidate!

Don't forget that we offer a free consultation, which in your case might be particularly illuminating. You can sign up here: https://www.stacyblackman.com/contact/

Good luck,

Thank you very much Margaret!!
This has been the best profile evaluation out of so many consultants. It does make me to stick with you once I start up with my MBA b school applications.
As you have mentioned I'm planning to retake the GMAT in a couple of months. What specific score you are suggesting me to aim at??
And as you have said I did have a lot of team leadership; infact every incident/case which I mentioned in the profile was a team work.
Also linking my experience with my MBA goals are a lot of points which I didn't mention.., firstly being the safety aspect of the maritime industry and energy industry; I had an experience of losing(death) of one of colleagues onboard.. that said there was a lot of commercial pressure and the safety guidelines weren't enough to prevent such an accident.. causing loss time injury (LTI) ; where LTI refers to personnel injuries, negligence of safety also entitles one to devastating accidents such as Deepwater Horizon (Gulf of Mexico) and Exxon Valdez (Alaska) incidents.
So coming to the point I want to join the Operations & Strategy wing of the Consulting companies in Maritime/Energy sector. Where with the sort of experience I have I can directly link the board rooms to the oilfields/ ships creating a win-win situation for the both parties.
Hoping that my goals aren't far fetched, awaiting a reply from you.
Thank you once again Margaret..

Regards,
Harsha TNS

Hi Harsha,
This goal seems like a good fit for you and for your MBA studies. Long term vision would be a strong addition as well.
GMAT: 720 - 730 would be super, because it would put you slightly ahead of the median for many top schools. In my opinion, you don't need to aim beyond that because you're not in competition with the daunting "Indian Engineer" pool, but rather with a pool of people from Maritime Industry backgrounds. As I mentioned, I've worked with several such clients over the years, and based on that I know that you will have colorful stories to tell and lots of leadership. Getting that GMAT solidly above-average for your target schools will help get you on their radar, and your differentiating background will carry the day from there.

Good luck!
