Profile Evaluation|MiF LBS|MBA

by Sudeep2931 » Sat Sep 17, 2016 6:34 am
Hi all,

Would really appreciate some advice on my overall profile, specially if I can fit in the MiF LBS program for 2017 intake.

Male applicant, age 25, Chartered Accountant from India (equivalent to a CPA/ACCA) and Commerce graduate from Mumbai University, India. We never had a "GPA" concept over here but I've graduated with an 86% score, if thats of any relevance.

I am yet to officially sit for GMAT (but expect anywhere between 680-710, from my mocks!).

My work experience

Currently - Actuarial/ Internal Audit at an Insurance Group from Middle East with a global presence (2 years)
Transaction Advisory with Ernst & Young 6 Months, Mumbai (have worked on 3 FS deals)
Auditing & Assurance with PwC in Mumbai for close to 4 years (includes 3 year full time internship as a part of the Chartered Accountancy course)

Does my profile qualifies as "competitive" for the LBS MiF applications? How about the MBF program at University of St. Gallen? The coursework is quite intriguing.

Also, if you guys can recommend few potential B schools with a practical chance of getting shortlisted. Looking for MBA finance specialization, mainly in North America and Western Europe.

Thanks for your time.

Best Regards,
Sudeep

Hey Sudeep,
Very good to hear from you!

So first things first - overall you have a good profile, but a lot will ride on that GMAT, and there is a world of difference between a 690 and a 710. Anyhow, you will get the best score you can I am sure. :)

For LBS, a 710 GMAT might be a bit low, but for St Gallen you are good to go. For the US you will likely be good to apply for schools outside the Top5/Top10 which will likely be a bit challenging, and in Europe you have many options, but it also depends on what country you want to live and work in.

There are great schools in almost every country.

If you have further questions, just drop a line.

Best,
Jon

Thank you Jon for a detailed response. Yes, I'm trying to break the 700 barrier :)

I'm far more attracted to the Msc Finance program, specifically looking at LBS, LSE and St. Gallen, but have been skeptical on the job prospects considering I'm a Non-EU candidate. Obviously, the St. Gallen program is quite economical and well respected in the German world, but do you think I'll be at a huge disadvantage to find a job if and when I get an admit there? I plan on doing typical financial modeling certifications and do internships in India before joining these programs.

Again, thanks a lot for your time, really appreciate it.

Best Regards,
Sudeep
