His campaign for sanitary conditions in operating rooms finally successful, Sir Joseph Lister lent his name to the company that developed Listerine, the first antibacterial liquid.

His campaign for sanitary conditions in operating rooms finally successful

Since his campaign for sanitary conditions in operating rooms had been eventually successful

Because of the eventual success of his campaigning for sanitary conditions in operating rooms

His campaign for sanitary conditions in operating rooms being eventually successful

Campaigning, eventually successfully, for conditions to be sanitary in operating rooms

I'l go with A.

B) Incorrect because it uses 'had been' (past perfect) with eventually.
C) Campaigning is incorrectly used (campaign is sufficient)
D) Being
E) awkward (eventually successfully).

A, even though it does not sound right, does was it is supposed to do - act as a modifier.

His campaign for sanitary conditions in operating rooms finally successful (Auxilary verb is missing)

Since his campaign for sanitary conditions in operating rooms had been eventually successful (This seems right...need comments from others)

Because of the eventual success of his campaigning for sanitary conditions in operating rooms (paralleism error)

His campaign for sanitary conditions in operating rooms being eventually successful (This seems right...need comments from others)

Campaigning, eventually successfully, for conditions to be sanitary in operating rooms (Awkward)

His campaign for sanitary conditions in operating rooms finally successful - Run on sentence, incorrect

Since his campaign for sanitary conditions in operating rooms had been eventually successful - Correct, we need had to show that campaign happend in past and then 'Lister' lent his name. Also we need campaign and not campaining.

Because of the eventual success of his campaigning for sanitary conditions in operating rooms - Incorrect, we need campaign to be used as noun. However, here it is used as verb.

His campaign for sanitary conditions in operating rooms being eventually successful - Incorrect, being is wordy here

Campaigning, eventually successfully, for conditions to be sanitary in operating rooms - Incorrect, who is campaining?

IMO B.

Want to know why D is wrong.. I would eliminate it bcos it contains "being". But want to know the exact reason..

I disagree - OA cannot be B - I then browsed through a couple of forums and confirmed that OA - A

It cannot be A. The sentence starts with a clause i.e. subordinate clause. A subordinate clause-also called a dependent clause-will begin with a subordinate conjunction or a relative pronoun and will contain both a subject and a verb.

A - Does not begin either with a subordinate conjunction or with a a relative pronoun
Does not have a VERB., RUN ON
C - Wrong ( Preposition + Noun + VERBing construction ) "...of his campaigning.."
D - Run on, same as A, being usage
IMO : B
I am on a break !!
