by vandanaj » Fri Aug 05, 2016 7:48 pm
Hi!

I am Vandana,24 years old, from India.
GMAT : 710
GPA : 3.7
Education:
10th : 90.6%
13% : 83%
Undergrad : Bachelors in Technology, Computer Science Engineering.
Working since past 2 years at Bank of America Continuum Pvt. Ltd., as a Senior Technical Associate.
I have several certifications in finance related topics and have an award too for an outstanding performance.

I am halfway through Competent Communicator manual of Toastmasters International and have won few speech contests. I would be done with this manual by September end.

Volunteer Experience:
I am an active member of the volunteering arm of Bank of America, called Team Aspire in which we adopt schools for underprivileged adults and teach them ourselves. I also taught in a community school in Assam during last summer, for 15 days. Back in college, I co-founded Teach for Vellore, which works on similar grounds as Teach for America or Teach for India.

I want to pursue MBA (yet to decide between Finance and General Management) in 2017 and wish to know my chances. Wharton, Harvard and Stern Business School are my dream colleges. Apart from these, I have the below listed colleges in mind:
NUS Singapore
HEC Paris
Cornell
INSEAD
Columbia, NY
Booth
Haas
Rotterdam
Ross

Can you please help me here and help me list which all colleges I do have chance. Also, how I can make my application stand out.
Also, could you help me with my application process.
Could you also share some email id or some contact to get in touch with you.

Regards
Vandana

Hi Vanada,
Lots of great stuff here! Top business schools will love your balance of work and community engagement, your GPA and your work with a large, global company.
Now, let's talk about what I don't see: leadership per se, international exposure, and the breakdown between Q and V on your GMAT. These are all areas that could potentially need work, so more information would be helpful, but that's something we could discuss in a consulting meeting if you choose to work with an MBA consultant.

In terms of school choices, you have a pretty broad variety there, and your chances at these schools would vary accordingly. For your top schools, such as NYU and Wharton, I'd want to see an even stronger GMAT and, if you can work this in over the next year, campus visits to each of the schools on your list. HBS will want to see really strong leadership, so that's a separate issue.

Best thing you could do -- and I don't always "push" our services, but it seems like a match in your case -- would be to get into our "Plan Ahead" system, and work with a top MBA consultant on laying out your steps over the next 10 months or so. Ideally I'd want to see you start your applications as early as April 2017, so you don't have as much time as you might think to lay any necessary groundwork!

In any case, cranking up leadership in the community and coming to the US (or wherever) to visit each school first-hand, while classes are in session, would be your most important next steps in my opinion.

Good luck!
