Dear friends,

anyone here help clarify why A is incorrect, please introduce the "as with" here rather than other issues here.

Thai village crafts, as with other cultures, have developed through the principle that form follows function and incorporate readily available materials fashioned using traditional skills.

(E) like those of

can "as with" be used as a tag of comparison?
it will be appreciate if explain the usage of "as with".

another question which include the usage of "as with" in C, why C is incorrect here?

Similar to other early Mississippi Delta blues singers, the music of Robert Johnson arose from an oral tradition beginning with a mixture of chants, fiddle tunes, and religious music and only gradually evolved into the blues.

Generally, as serves to compare CLAUSES.
Thai village crafts, as with other cultures, have developed.
As with other early Mississippi Delta blues singers, Robert Johnson made music.

In each case, the portion in blue is a CLAUSE, while the portion in red is a PREPOSITIONAL MODIFIER.
as may not serve to compare a clause to a modifier.

As illustrated by the incorrect answer choices above, the usage of as with will generally result in an illogical comparison between a clause and a modifier.
Be VERY skeptical of any answer choice the includes the usage of as with.

thanks so much GurnNY

so "as with" is not an idiom ?
but OG says: " as with should be at the beginning of the sentence: As with the crafts of other cultures, Thai village crafts have developed . . . ."
seems "as with" is an idiom.

what I catch your explanation is that
"as" is a tag that can introduce clauses to be comparison
"with the culture" is a prep phrase.

please point out if incorrect

thanks a lot

have a nice day

Hi experts,

I can understand that comparison "as" should be followed by a clause.
but
I am still confused that comparison "as" will be followed by a prep phrase,
here is an correct sentence from MANHATTAN SC ,6th, P 184
AS in the previous case, the judge took an early break.

what's the difference btw example and option C?
please clarify why "as with" is incorrect in C.

thanks a lot
have a nice day
