Prospective MBA student at USC

by alman » Thu May 19, 2016 10:54 pm
Hello, I am currently an undergrad student at USC Marshall School of Business. I am looking into applying to the MBA program or a Masters at USC. A little background as I enter my senior year. I am a transfer from a CC with a 3.8 gpa and have a university gpa of 2.9 (not good). My gpa was a little higher but one class of leadership brought me down this semester as I got a c-. As far as my other courses such as finance/accounting /marketing I have done fairly well with A's and B's. I am entering my senior year and am studying for the GMAT and am getting ready to take it this coming fall. I know I put myself at a disadvantage with my low gpa but hope to bring it up with the coming semester which allows me to take my emphasis and upper division electives. I am hoping to increase it the semester after as well, but the applications would have already been due. I am wondering what I should do to increase my chances. I understand a score of 700 and above on the gmat would be great, but what about my gpa. Has that completely thrown me out of the chances? Has it been heard of people being accepted to USC Mba program with a low gpa. Their average is about a 3.3. Thanks for any advice.

Hey dude,
Well you may be jumping the gun a bit. Meaning its hard to worry about your chances when you haven't worked.

But my initial principle would be: do what you can now.

Your GPA will follow you throughout your entire life, so pour ALL your energies into that. Forget the GMAT, forget the MBA. You'll have time enough to take care of that later.

If you have some way of getting rid of or retaking that C- class, do it!

The rest you can take care of later,
Best,
Jon
