Hey Girishj

I completely understand why you think E should be correct but try understanding the meaning of the sentence.
E changes the meaning drastically. It means as if they are talking about the same previous train . According to this sentence it means
First stop the train with 5 hand breakers over the distance of 1500 feet ---> then stop the train at 171 feet this is not the intended meaning.

The intended meaning is to compare it the previous train stop.( how i did it previously? vs How I do it now!!!?) - Analogy!!

Hope it helps.!

PS- On difficult SCs - the grammar is very easy but the meaning is the first priority!
