This sc has been discussed several times in all forums; however i want to know in the following sentence is parallelism correct?

Nowhere in early American literature is it more apparent that Jane Austen had an influence than the novels of James Fenimore Cooper

the first in applies to second part perfectly. Then why this option is incorrect?

The contrast in the sentence you wrote above is not parallel, and therefore the sentence conveys a nonsensical meaning.

You can make why this is the case possibly easier to see by switching the wording around.

That Jane Austin had an influence is nowhere more apparent in American Literature than the novels of James Fenimore Cooper.

The nonsensical meaning conveyed by the above sentence is that That Jane Austen had an influence is nowhere more apparent than the novels of James Fenimore Cooper are apparent.

Now look at the sentence that you wrote. It seems to convey that it is not more apparent than the novels of James Fenimore Cooper are apparent.

In order for the sentence to convey the correct meaning, the sentence has to contain a second in before the novels of James Fenimore Cooper, as does the sentence created using choice D.
