INSEAD Jan 17 Intake -

by Kiura » Mon Jan 18, 2016 9:09 am
Hey Guys,

I will be applying for the January 17' intake at INSEAD and would love to get some perspective on my profile.

My profile:
Data: 29, male, French
GMAT: 720 - 67% in Quant, 96% in verbal
TOEFL: Not received yet, should not be an issue
Previous Education: Masters in business from a top 10 French Business School (top 30% of the class, nothing impressive, must say grades weren't a big focus point for me at the time)
Work experience: 5-6 years in a global FMCG based in Cincinnati, in supply chains and operations, planning role in the first 4 years in both France and Geneva, and Warehouse leader in the past 1.5 year in Germany. Managing a team of 66 people. Promotion ahead of peer group, and included in high potential program.
Recommendation letter: Both should be very good, and coming from my former director and current plant manager.
International experience: Changed country every 3-4 years when growing up, notably spent 2 years in UK, and 4 years in the US. Worked in France, Switzerland, and Germany so far. Speak French/English fluently, German to a good working level, and Spanish at a decent level (Lived 3 months in Madrid and 3 months in Mexico DF).

Anything else that I missed let me know :)

Also I do have a question on the essays, after consulting with one of my old colleagues who did INSEAD (now mckinsey) he suggested I use a professional service to review and proofread the essays. Apparently it is something that is commonly done by applicants. Any suggestion on this one, seems expensive for a proofread, but if it really brings added value to the application then it is a small price to pay. Any recommended service to use?

Thanks in advance for your help and insight!!
Cheers,

Kiura,

A few perspectives for you here:
  1. First up, since I belong to the community of consultants, here is a primer on what to use us for and what not to. Bottom line, think of us more as strategy consultants than glorified wordsmiths/editors. Your friend seems to be well aware of the myth explained here.
  2. Coming to your profile, well there are a lot of strong points here. The biggest being your impressive cultural experiences. Languages are a big plus too. All these will be very relevant for most European (including INSEAD) program. The question though is, why only 1 school? The proverbial eggs should never be put in one basket remember?
  3. The thing that's not mentioned here is reason for pursuing an MBA. You seem to be doing great career wise - so where does MBA take you? Make sure you've done that research and thinking part; only then should you move forward.
Hope this helps some.

Cheers,

Kiura hi,

My name is Shimri Winters and I am a members of the strategy team at ARINGO.

You have a great profile! I love you international experience and your managerial experience.
Also, well done on the GMAT score which (for French people) is high...
I think you have a great chance for INSEAD (naturally, I would consider LBS, IESE and perhaps 1-2 other schools as a backup plan).

I think you should use some service that specializes in INSEAD helping you articulate better your past experiences and future plans.

With www.ARINGO.com, you will be working with an INSEAD graduate from day 1 (who has been an ARINGO consultant for 5+ years, personally working with 10s of successful applicants on getting into INSEAD). We will work with you on your 8!!! essays + your CV, and each document will be viewed by your consultant plus two more INSEAD specialists...
INSEAD is our top school in terms of acceptance rates... check out our statistics on https://aringo.com/aringo-mba-admission-statistics
Feel free to contact me directly (sending me your CV for a deep review...) on [email protected]
and most importantly, GOOD LUCK!
Shimri Winters

Hi Kiura,

Your international background, leadership experience, and fast career progression are good building blocks for your INSEAD application. It would help to show more community involvement outside of work. Also, you are coming from one of the more competitive pools (Male/French) as INSEAD also makes sure that the class is not dominated by any single nationality.

Working with applicants to INSEAD the past 8 years, I found that clients benefit most when we help them reflect thoughtfully (even resulting in revelations about themselves during the process) about their MBA applications, rather than just proofreading or being a wordsmith. A successful partnership between client and consultant answers the questions, highlighting fit, while helping the client stand out and addressing potential concerns about his profile. This requires not only the financial investment, but the time and effort to be open in the consultation process.

Hope this helps!
