by swati1606 » Sat Dec 12, 2015 11:00 am
Hello,

I am looking to get a second MBA. I completed my MBA from one of the top 10 B schools in India. However, I was fresh out of Undergrad then and had no professional experience prior to my MBA. I worked for 5 years post my MBA, and now feel a second MBA will broaden my international exposure and help me build networks and expertise in industries I want to build my career in, in the long term.
I'm looking to get an opinion of my profile so I can assess my chances at admissions at top schools. I'm aiming for Harvard (reach school), but I'm also looking at Columbia, Wharton, MIT Sloan, NYU Stern, INSEAD

Second MBAs are a tough sell! In my experience, many schools are simply not going to be open to it. That said, you can make a strong case for your need for this experience, and hope for the best.

One thing I would suggest: assess your need for this degree and location carefully, and think about what formats might best meet your needs. I have had luck with applicants who already had local MBAs, but who applied for one-year full-time programs, such as Kellogg's Accelerated MBA or Columbia's J-Term. You might want to schedule a trip to the US to visit some of these schools, talk to some admissions people, and see if an accelerated full-time program would meet your needs -- you get the brand, the international exposure and the relationship-building, but without repeating core courses you've already had.

Good luck!
