Hi,there! I'm preparing for GMAT test. Can someone help me figure out what the difference between the following modifers?

correspondingly increased sales
corresponding increases in sales

These two phrases are from the following question in OG:

Rising inventories, when unaccompanied correspondingly by increases in sales, can lead to production cutbacks that would hamper economic growth.

(A) when unaccompanied correspondingly by increases in sales, can lead
(B) when not accompanied by corresponding increases in sales, possibly leads
(C) when they were unaccompanied by corresponding sales increases, can lead
(D) if not accompanied by correspondingly increased sales, possibly leads
(E) if not accompanied by corresponding increases in sales, can lead

the right answer is E, and I still wanna know whether "possibly" can replace "can" regardless the false of agreement in the answer choice?

Thank you for help!

Hi RayChan,

You'll like get more of a response to your question if you post it in the SC Sub-Forum here:

https://www.beatthegmat.com/sentence-correction-f9.html,

The big 'issue' in this SC is really about parallelism (and not modification). Notice how the first part of the sentence states "rising inventories".... which phrase is PARALLEL to that opening phrase?
