Which of the following values is greatest?

(A) 11% of 89(B) 22% of 78(C) 33% of 67(D) 44% of 56(E) 55% of 45

Is there any trick to answer this question faster without having to multiply everything out?

Ignore the percents.
To make the values easier to compare, rephrase them as multiples of 11.

A = 11*89.
B = 22*78 = 11*2*78 = 11*156.
C = 33*67 = 11*3*67 = 11*201.
D = 44*56 = 11*4*56 = 11*224.
E = 55*45 = 11*5*45 = 11*225.

The value in red is greatest.

The correct answer is E.
