Arpit,

A few thoughts on your profile:
  1. You have solid brands with you both for undergrad and for your work. The GMAT is stellar too. All these are obvious strong points which make the school list you have in mind a fairly balanced one basis just the objective parameters
  2. The move from Schlum to Housing is a non-obvious one. Both the stints have been relatively short ones so far. The post-MBA plan you have mentioned sounds a bit confused frankly. Corp Strat is difficult for international candidates to break into in general. You have not mentioned which startup you have in mind. The overall pitch might appear a bit inconsistent and warrants good amount of explanation. You also need to clearly think through the goals story and rationale for an MBA. The post here may provide you a start. Another year of relevant experience might be worth evaluating too
  3. Your ECs look pretty impressive. The fact that you seem to have leadership experience at your current organization is a big plus. But it isn't clear as to whether you've continued on your EC involvement after college. The community work, barring a plan you have put, also seems to be during college? This might be another area to look into as you prepare your applications
Hope this helps,

Cheers,

Hey Arpit!
So I'm liking what I am seeing here.

what a GMAT dude! And a graduate from IIT Bombay with an excellent GPA and a very diverse career. You have especially a lot of leadership, which will be a big advantage when it comes to applying. I think you just gotta work on picking and choosing what is important and what is pushing your profile forward.

You got some decent extras along with that too, so all is good.

I think if you can get great recs and write a beautiful app, you can stick for the most part to Top 10 schools. Yes yes!

If you have any other questions, just drop a line good sir,

Best,
Jon

Hey Jon

Appreciate the prompt response !
Your reply has helped calm my nerves
Was just wondering if you could help me identify a few schools that are under my reach and schools that are a sure shot success out of top 20.

Hi mcbMcK

Thanks for the prompt response.

Post MBA, I am looking to enter the Corp strategy of E-commerce/ M-commerce / internet industry such as Amazon, Facebook which would be a continuation of my current profile of sales strategy at an Indian e-commerce firm.

My EC involvement post college has been limited and I have given it another push by engaging with top Indian NGOs very recently.

Hey there! I love the detail! Appreciate you sharing your background. Congratulations on a killer GMAT! Well done! With a stellar score and a strong GPA, your academic profile puts you in the conversation for a top ten run. I like your work experience...not only have you shown career progression in a short period of time, but you've also demonstrated your leadership capacity which is a huge plus. Your work and accomplishments at the Department of Metallurgical Engineering & Materials Science (that's a mouthful, eh?) is impressive as well! Was this considered community service? If so, this will more than suffice for your involvement, but if not, you may want to explore some other opportunities to give back you can truly get involved in.

Overall, you're a contender at the schools you listed. I think the time horizon you set for yourself is spot on. I would suggest thinking a bit deeper in terms of your short and long term goals. The more specific you can be here, the better off you'll be. We can certainly help with this as well! We'd love to hear more about your story, so if you want to chat, sign up for a [free consultation] and we can help you figure out the path forward!

Hey there,
Well my advice to you would be to
a) Apply to as many schools as you can in R1
b) Apply to a mix of Top 10 and Top 20 schools

With your goals, I think any school can be good for you so I'd suggest looking at which schools you WANT to go to - (in terms of fit, location, etc.). I feel if you apply to 4-5 schools out of the Top 10, plus another 2-3 in the Top 20 you should be able to come away with some nice results.

Best,
JF

Product Management and not corporate strategy is the more usual route Arpit. Do keep the feasibility of your goals in perspective as you write your story.
