MBA after MIB. Will it be a problem?

by nishanthadithya » Mon Aug 18, 2014 10:08 am
Hello

i am pursuing Masters in International Business at a tier 1 business school namely Grenoble graduate school of business, Europe (in top 15 at Financial times). Since i had only 1.5 years work experience and i did not write gmat, i joined this program.

I plan to work for 2 years and then apply to Mba at top business schools in USA namely kellogg,UCLA,Yale, Fuqua and Hass. Another reason i chose to pursue masters was i had a very average GPA (7.3/10) in my undergrad since i had no interest in engineering and was forced to do that. I have 3 years part time experience as marketing executive and 1.5 years as a marketing co ordinator. I am also a sustainable agriculturalist. My queries are

1. Will i be asked why i am pursuing MBA after MIB? will that be a problem to my admission at top business school

2. How much should i score in GMAT to get into the above mentioned business schools?

3. Will my undergrad GPA be considered during my admission?

How should i plan and structure my next two years to get into the top business school?

Thank you in advance

Hello there,
Thanks for dropping by.
So let me jump straight into your questions!

1. Of course you will! And what will you answer? I myself wonder about this plan and its wisdom. The degrees may be a bit similar. So you will need to explain your logic.
2. 720 and above

3. Of course it will. And it will make the above schools a biiiit difficult. Buuut if your work experience is good, and you have good extras, and a great GMAT they should also be possible.

To answer your final question: A lot will depend on your work experience. If you work for a great company in an important role with fast promotions, and good leadership, (plus some good volunteer work and extra curricualrs on the side) then the sky is the limit.
:)

Jon

I Thank you once again for your reply.

Though hard to digest that the above mentioned schools are biiit difficult, i am also interested in trying Cornell johnson, fishers, mcCombs, insead. Will this be reachable for me??

Hey!
It should be possible, but it will of course depend on what you do doing those two years. Don't worry about that right now, instead on getting the best you can out of your next years (strong work experience, strong leadership, strong volunteer work). That will help you more than anything else!
