710( Q50, V35, IR3) but AWA 4

by abhi.iitb » Tue Aug 05, 2014 6:47 pm
Hi All,
Two days back i received my AWA score of 4. I wrote GMAT last week and scored 710( Q50, V35, IR3). I was already nervous with my poor show on IR but, dismal performance on AWA is giving me lot of doubt regarding my chances at admission to Top B Schools.

Although, as per Official guide, a score of 4 is considered adequate but, still wants to know from experts how this score will impact my chances at applications.

Hi abhi.iitb,

A 4 on the AWA is fine; it's actually the unspoken "minimum" that Business Schools look for. It's a bit below the national average (around 4.2-4.3), but since the AWA is a measure of your ability to put together (from scratch) a reasonably organized, logical response to a prompt in under 30 minutes, you're not expected to write Shakespeare. This score won't hurt your applications at all.

Hi Rich,
Thanks a lot for your comments. Two years back I wrote GMAT and scored 540(Q49, V19, IR6, AWA4.5). Will my previous score on IR and AWA provides support to low score of IR 3 and AWA 4 on this year GMAT?

Thanks
Abhishek

Hi abhi.iitb,

The improvements to your overall score, Quant Scaled Score (and to a lesser extent, your Verbal Scaled Score) are what matter. The lower IR and Essay scores will NOT make any difference to your applications.
