Requesting Profile Evaluation

by ashok.kumar » Mon Apr 28, 2014 6:18 am
Hello,

Please evaluate my profile. I intend to apply for B-Schools in next 2-3 years or so.

Age-24
Gender- Male
Country-India
GMAT-750 (50,40)
Work Ex- ~1 Year (currently)| Consulting | ZS Associates (Shifted from Volvo after working for 6 months - wanted to move to consulting)
Education- B.E (Mechanical) & M.Sc (Chemistry) - Dual Degree - BITS Pilani
CGPA - 7.5/10
XII - 85% (CBSE)
X - 95% (CBSE)
Ex-Cr : Writing - Blogging, Online Magazines| Quizzing | College Association Head | Involved in Fest Organizing | Etc

From what I understand, I have a very ordinary profile. My GMAT score might be a plus, but rest everything is pretty normal.

I want to know :
1. Based on my current profile, what B-schools should I target in, say, 2016? What are the chances for top B Schools?( I have around 2-3 years to build my profile from here.)
2. What are some of the ways to improve my profile?
3. What are my chances for Indian Schools like ISB?

Hey dude,
Well first of all CONGRATS! That is one awesome GMAT score! Well done! And second of all, Your profile is only NORMAL if you ALLOW it to be normal. This is really important. Because in a certain sense you are right. Your profile is "ordinary". And their are gonna be lots of other folks with the same or a similar profile applying. BUUUUT, there is a lot you can DO to make your profile more interesting. So no excuse for sitting on your thumbs and hoping your profile will become more interesting. It's your job to go out and do that, especially if you have more than a year ahead of you!!!

So go out and volunteer! JOIN clubs! LEAD something! Do some crazy and wild thing you have always wanted to do! Start preparing NOW and your profile can BECOME more interesting,

Yep yep,
Jon

Thanks man! :)

There's one more thing I wanted to ask. I want to pursue my career in management consulting, I like the kind of work they do. Are there any exams like CFA (for finance guys) in consulting that might help me future? Also, any particular advise for consulting career?

You got it good sir.
Well the two really important things for Management Consulting are:
1. to graduate from the right school (look at who hires where)
2. To have a good GMAT (above 700 at least) (CHECK! :) )

So one out of two are out of the way.

Best,
Jon
