Hi Admissionado Team,
First of all, I would like to thank you on the behalf of all the aspirants. You guys are doing a great service. I am planning to go for my 2nd MBA - and I am trying to understand the colleges that I can potentially get an admit from

EDUCATION
10th Grade,2001: 84%
12th Grade: 76%

Undergraduate (Telecommunication Engineering from a 'lesser' known college in India),2005: 69%
MBA (NMIMS, Top 15 college in India), 2009: 3.04/4

WORK EXPERIENCE
I am a marketing analytics specialist and for the past 5 years, I have been working in this domain. I have worked in renowned Indian and US based companies, and I have good recommendations.

OTHER DETAILS:
*I was working towards starting-up my tech venture in 2011-2012. Since, I was not financially independent back end, I was working part time on that idea. We successfully built a proof of concept but were not able to monetize our creation

* avid guitarist and trekker

WHY 2ND MBA:
I am keen on wanting to start up once again and I am looking for a great environment and peer group to draw inspiration from.
India is still a 'developing' ecosystem as far as IP (Intellectual Property) clauses of tech products are concerned

ADVICE I SEEK:
(thanks for reading this far)
I am trying to understand that with my kind of a profile, what is the kind of business schools that I hope to get admission in? I understand that this might be a highly subjective question, but I am looking to study in the Top 15 schools only. Please let me know ideal GMAT score for securing an admit.

PS: I have not taken GMAT. However, I am confident that I'll be able to get a good score if I work towards it.

Thank you so much.
R

Dear R,

Thanks for writing dude!
First of all, I should say that I am missing enough detail to give you a real, deep profile evaluation, but I can respond a bit roughly.

I think you have a couple of tough hurdles on your way towards your MBA

Here are your main challenges:
- Indian/Male/Tech (although you ARE in marketing, which is great)
- So-so GPA
- A first MBA
- On the older side

All of these things together will make Top 20 schools likely out of range for you.

But if you were to beat a 700 on the GMAT, I still think you'd have a shot at schools ranked 20-40, which likely can help you reach your goals as well.

Hope this helps!!!

Hi Jon,
thanks a lot for your candid feedback. I am not keen on looking at schools beyond the Top 10 or 15. It looks like that is not going to be very easy, so i'll probably be reconsidering my plan for pursuing an MBA.

Thanks again,
R

Hi,

Just wanted to understand why having an MBA already is a hurdle while applying for the management courses of top 20 colleges.

Thanks

Because the schools look at it as: You already got your MBA. Why haven't you made it to where you want to go with one MBA already? They want your studies to be justified, and your choices to make sense.
