I have been studying for the GMAT for the past two months and I wanted to know what GMAT score I need to attain in order to get into the part time MBA program at either USC or UCLA. In addition, what are your thoughts on part time programs at LMU and Pepperdine?

Below is a summary of my profile:

Undergrad School: California State University Long Beach
Undergrad Major: Bachelor of Science Business Administration, empahsis on Accounting
Undergrad GPA: 3.48
Major GPA: 3.6
Certification: CPA License
Work Progression: 2 years @ Big 4 Firm (auditing) > 2 years @ Big 6 Film Studio (financial planning/forecasting)

Well, I'd have to dig a bit more into your profile to get deeper and give you a more precise answer.. but I feel like anything above 690 and you are in excellent shape, and anything above 620 is still good enough to give it a shot.

And I think given your industry and school choice, that there's no advantage for you compromising in your school choice, and you can probably make it into the part-time programs you mentioned.... just try hard on the GMAT. It'll be worth it.

I appreciate your feedback Jon. I attended a part-time MBA info session at USC last night and I feel pretty confident that I can get into the school. Now it is time to really focus on the GMAT.

Thanks again!

Quick question, I was a music major (emphasis in classical guitar) prior to switching over to Business/Accounting. I won scholarships, traveled to Europe with a guitar quartet, and recorded with local orchestras. Should I mention my musical past in any of my essays? The Adcom will definitely see all the music classes in my transcripts.

Thanks,
Rich

It should definitely be in there somewhere to enrich and broaden the scope of your application. Whether or not you should write a full essay on it depends on the questions asked, on the other stories you have in, and in how strong your music story is, but yes, definitely keep it!

FYI, I was admitted into UCLA FEMBA with a 610 GMAT score. I focused on my essays, interviewed well, and networked like crazy!
