I'd really appreciate if some one can review my profile and suggest the schools I should consider applying. I was expecting a higher score in my GMAT based on my perfomabnces in the practice Tests. It was always between 720-740. However, I failed miserably twice in the offical exam (610 & 650).

GMAT Score:
Q 49, V 31, IR 6 (650)
Demographics:
Indian, 28, Male

Work Experience:
Procurement & Supply Chain Management - 5+ years ( 4+ years in UAE), Construction, Oil and Gas
Currently working as a Buyer with Abu Dhabi Government Organization. Youngest Employee in the Division. Average work experience of the peers is 10+ years.

Target Schools: INSEAD, Booth, Kellog, Ross, ISB , LBS (I do not think with this GMAT score I would be able to get in)- Please suggest the name of few schools where I have a fair chance.
Post MBA Goal: I'm not looking for a career change. Pretty happy with Procurement and Supply Chain environment. The main idea is to build up a great professional network and to develop a 180 degree understanding of management priinciples. The aim is to remain in Middle East.

Academic:
Bachelor of Engineering - Electrical & Electronics, State Level Engineering College - 62.8%, first Class (No GPA System)

Certificates:
CIPS (Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply) - Level 3 and Level 4
CPP (Certified Purchaisng Professional ) - Awarded by APICS
PMP - Expected to complete the second quarter of 2014.

Extra Curricular:
College Students Union Chairman 2006-07

Excutive member of College Alumni Chapter in UAE.

Hello there Riyas,
Well the first thing I would suggest to you is to rethink your overall strategy. Right now you are a bit late for R2 this year, so my first thought is that you should think about next year anyhow. This thought is backed up by your GMAT results, which are pretty strange. Although it's pretty normal to test 10-30 points less on the GMAT more than 100 means something is going wrong, and it may be worth your while to spend time figuring it out and fixing it. (meaning it is TOTALLY worth your while).

Especially since even if you had a 720 your target schools would not be easy to get into, necessarily. With a 62% from a non IIT school as an Indian candidate, it will be tough. I would also urge you to have a look at schools that are strong in gas and oil. The first ones that come to mind are McCombs and Rice, Haas too (although you would need at least a 710 to even think about Haas).

So your profile looks good, and it would be a shame to let that single test ruin your chances for you. So I'd definitely think about another retake,

Best,
JF
