Statement 1: Distance of a and b from s are same.
Now, if a and b lies on the same side of b on the number line, then a = b.
Otherwise, a ≠ b
So, statement 1 is not sufficient.

Statement 2: Clearly not sufficient.

Both statements together: As s is negative but a and b are positive, it is not possible that a and b lie on different sides of s on the number line.
So, a and b must be on the same side of s on the number line.
So, a = b
Both statements together is sufficient


Answer : C
