a).............
b) ignorantly to the crime, with
c) ignorance of the crime, since
d)ignorance of the crime, for
e) to have ignorance of the crime, since

A - usage of "having" is incorrect.
B - changes the meaning of the sentence.the intended meaning is that one of the informants eventually claimed that he/she was not aware of the crime. B says that he/she actually professed (self-acknowledged) to the crime although ignorantly.hence incorrect.
C - ................ since fear that ............. - awkward construction.
E - same as C.

hence IMO D.

OA is D, bu I thought that "since" can be used as "because" and chose the wrong answer C!
