40, 45, 45, 50, 50, 60, 70, 75, 95, 100

The scores on a certain history test are shown above. how many scores were greater than the median score but less than the mean score?

A. None
B. One
C. Two
D. Three
E. Four

OA is B.

The mean is no problem, but is there a quick way to find out the average? thanks in advance.

i dont know of any formula or quick way of getting the averages but u can use the following method.. i am not sure how far will it be helpful...

take 60 out

60 + ( -20-15-15-10-10+0+10+15+35+40)/10

if u see the above u can cancel +35 and -20 and -15 , -15 and +15 , -10 and +10, so ur left only with +40 and -10.

60 +30/10= 63

hope it helps
