Hi, fellas.~~

Q1 ) In a leveraged buyout, investors borrow huge sums of money to buy companies, hoping to pay off the debt by using the company's earnings and to profit richly by the later resale of the companies or their divisions.

A. by using the company's earnings and to profit
B. by using the companies' earnings and by profiting
C. using the companies' earnings and profiting
D. with the company's earnings, profiting
E. with the companies' earnings and to profit

OA is E.
I chose A because it seems that the word ('by using the ~~~) parallel "by the later resale..

what do u think about why "A" is incorrect?

Q2) Legislation in the Canadian province of Ontario requires of both public and private employers that pay be the same for jobs historically held by women as for jobs requiring comparable skill that are usually held by men.

(A) that pay be the same for jobs historically held by women as for jobs requiring comparable skill that are
(B) that pay for jobs historically held by women should be the same as for a job requiring comparable skills
(C) to pay the same in jobs historically held by women as in jobs of comparable skill that are
(D) to pay the same regardless of whether a job was historically held by women or is one demanding comparable skills
(E) to pay as much for jobs historically held by women as for a job demanding comparable skills

OA is A... I considered A and C but chose C.
My questions is..
1. (A) require of SB that S V vs (C) require of sb to V
which is prevailing in this sentence? or incorrect?
2. (A) is 'for jobs" and (C) is 'in jobs" ..I can;t figure out
the usage 'for jobs' and 'in jobs' .. is that idiom like "held in:?

plz give me your tips.

Q1) "to pay off the debt" ............ is parallel to "to profit richly".
hence its a clear contest between A n E.

here we r talking about the earnings from all the companies (plural) that the investors bought.
hence companies' (plural possessive form) is correct here.

hence IMO E.

Q2) "requires....." indicate usage of subjunctive mood.hence A is correct.
hence IMO A.

Thanks!

Q1. The simplest explanation for why it is E as opposed to A is the difference between the idioms pay . . . by and pay . . . with.

The debts are going to paid with the company's earnings.

To say that the debts are going to be paid by the company's earnings implies that the vehicle for payment will be company earnings. You pay by credit card.

Additionally, as with most idioms, when you remove the clutter in the statement the phrase "pay by company earnings" sounds wrong.
