How damaging is a relatively low quant score if your overall score is above or near a school's median GMAT score? I have been hitting my goal score on practice CATs recently (low 700s), but my quant score is still falling between the 60th and 79th percentile and I'm worried that it will hurt my chances at top schools.
Also, I received A's and A+'s in most of the math/ stat/ econ classes that I took in college (at a large public university) and currently work in a finance-related field. Will those aspects of my application be enough to offset a lower quant score on my GMAT? |

Dear Schrute Beets,
If your total score is in the 700s (or at/above a school's median), and your quant percentile is above 60-65, then you will probably be fine. It is great that you have good grades on your transcripts in quant courses as that will demonstrate your abilities. Likewise, any analytical/quantitative components to your professional experience should be highlighted on your resume. Try not to worry about this as I'm not sure you should be--just do the best you can on the exam. Chances are, you will not need to address it at all.
Good luck,
