Profile evaluation please

by rajcools » Mon Jul 09, 2012 12:42 pm
Hi Sir ,

Please evaluate my profile and suggest me how can I improve my profile--

I am a software engineer in India with five years of experience working at a really high -tech company (Amazon / Microsoft type )

GMAT - 720
CGPA - 7.7/10 with a multiplying factor of 9.5 , CGPA is on lower side :(
College - NIT Jalandhar (NIT's are considered 2nd best after IIT's)
12th - 87%

In achievements
Outstanding ranking at work - I get Outstanding ranking in annual appraisal
International Exposure - I have been to Europe for work three times (not long but 2 weeks stay each time)
I dont have much leadership to show off maybe I can show here and there.

Extracurricular -
Dancer

Sir I think I can increase my GMAT as my average score in practice tests was 740-750 , but I fear spending time on GMAT again will eat my time for Essay's. Please suggest me what to do

I know HBS and Wharton are out of my reach :(

I am trying for Kellogg , ISB .

Sir I want to get into consulting after MBA. Companies I am interested are McKinsey and BCG. I have one more query that whether these consulting companies during hiring ask GMAT score??? Should I try for GMAT again

Sir your advice will be much appreciated

Hello there.
Soo first of all things look good! No need to even THINK about retaking your GMAT 720 is higher than all average GMATs of all schools and a 770 will also not magically get you accepted. Better to spend your time on other things like your APPLICATION!!! :)

Harvard and Wharton will be stretches for you. You come from a tough pool, and from what you have written, have what SEEMS like a relatively standard application. (work experience etc.). Which means that you have to do whatever you can to make your application NON-STANDARD, to make yourself different - more unique more passionate, more interesting than the others. That is your best way to increase your chances in the toughest of schools.
