So, I just finished another practice exam. Please join me in some venting after/related to practice exams.
My method for studying consists of doing these regularly to gauge my progress. In between, I focus on the types of problems I got wrong and doing them in the OG.
Anyway...my tests have been all over the place and I'm going to complain a bit (though, given the results, perhaps that's not fair). My first test (official prep) was a 680. Good starting point, right? With Kaplan I dipped from a 670 (eh, that's fine) to a 640 (yikes!). The only thing I felt I could conclude at this point is that I'm bad at SC.
So, I picked up MGMAT SC and started drillin'. After a while and some OG I took one of MGMAT's online CAT tests: 700. w00t, right? Except, that my Quant % was < my Verbal %!?!? I'm a freakin' engineer...what happened? I guess I must have totally clutched.
Quick review of MGMAT: They throw some tough problems and I wasn't able to finish the Quant.
Anyway, I'll study for 3-4 more days and try another practice test on the weekend. Sigh, things are looking good for a GMAT beating but I just wish I could start showing some more consistency!
Summary:
680 GMATprep
670 Paper Kaplan
640 Online Kaplan
700 MGMAT #1
I plan to take 3-4 more practice tests before my test on June 6th. My target is a 720 and I think that is reasonable considering my current progression, no? |

Take a look at my scores in my signature and you will see the volatility (as well as little playful smiley faces that show you my mood after each). What mattered to me was not my test scores, but how comfortable I was with the exam and how much I was learning. As long as I felt good about that, I knew my cat scores would eventually fall in line. _________________ http://www.beatthegmat.com/my-blog-errors-and-lessons-learned-t4899.html
