Hi,the question says:
With only 5% of the world's population,United states citizens consume 28% of its nonrenewable resources,drive more than one third of its automobiles,and use 21 times more water per capita than Europeans do.

Correct answer is :
e)Although accounting for.

I could not understand why,
d) despite having
cannot be the answer coz despite having does compare united states citizens to Europeans.

Pls explain!

"Despite having" implies the "United States Citizens" have 5% of world's population which is not correct. It is the country"United states" have 5% population for ex:
despite having only 5% of the world's population,United states consume 28% of its nonrenewable resources,drive more than one third of its automobiles,and use 21 times more water per capita than Europe does.
