GMAT CAT / PAPER mock test sources?

by cwong11 » Sat Apr 05, 2008 12:46 pm
Hi,

I have exhausted my GMAT CAT sources. These include,

- 2 x GMATPrep CAT from mba.com
- 4 x Kaplan CAT from Kaplan Premier Program

I have done too much of these tests that I feel that I can almost memorize the answers.

I doubt the difficulty on the Princeton Review, so I would rule out this source.

Can anyone please recommend any source where I can obtain great CAT/ paper form of full tests that best resemble the actual test?

Thanks!

PS. I have seen some of you posted 3 estimated scores from MGMAT.
However, all I can find on the web are Manhattan GMAT practice books on specific sections such as SC or RC. Can those of you please advice me how I can obtain these MGMAT mock tests? thanks!

No, definitely do the PR tests. They are far better than the Kaplan ones you already took...more realistic in every week.

Edit: And don't do paper tests...you need to practice with CATs...Computer ADAPTIVE Tests. The paper tests are like doing the OG, only timed. They don't help you sufficiently prepare for the real thing.

Consider the paper-based tests from mba.com. There are also great resources for GMAT preparation.

Most GMAT prep companies have a free online test you can do as well. The MGMAT one is a nice challenge. Likely you will struggle to complete it and have more incorrect answers, but your score should only be slightly lower. I enjoyed it's difficultly. Kaplan offers the same, and if you search enough, you can still download the old PowerPrep software.

@bdahlg68

Could u please explain what u mean by "download the old powerprep software" ?? Who are the makers of these ???

& how's it different from the new one ???? Aren't the questions repeated in both the new & old formats ??

Thanks in advance !!

PowerPrep is the older version and was administered by ETS. It is slightly easier than GMATPrep. Google it and you should be able to find the application somewhere.

@btgmat_2010

Thank you so much for clarifying that !!!

I actually have the PowerPrep software with me .... Although I don't remember where it came from ...... The problem of having too much stuff given by friends, i guess !! :)

One more query though,

I have not taken the GmatPrep till now coz i want to reserve the TWO tests for the end ....... Plan to take one about a month before the Gmat Date & the other about a week back .......(I hope that is the right way to go about it!!)

My Query is :-

Since the PowerPrep software is also made by the same group ..... will they have an overlap of the Ques or would the Ques bank be different ?!?! Is it safe to take the PowerPrep without the fear of repeating the Ques in the GmatPrep software.

I am asking this because I want to be absolutely sure that I give my 2 mock tests under simulated test conditions without a repeat of Qs as i want to get an accurate picture as to where i stand .... this would help me in either going ahead with the exam with confidence or altering the date in case the situation so demands!!

Please do let me know ..... Thanks a lot for ur help !!

Regards ...... Sam

GMATPrep and Powerprep should have different questions. Also it should be noted that you can take the GMATPrep tests twice each without getting much overlap. That is, you can take the first test twice and the second test twice and only get around 85% overlap
If my post helped you- let me know by pushing the thanks button ;)

@ Dan .......

Thanks for the clarification!!!
That is, you can take the first test twice and the second test twice and only get around 85% overlap
U mean 15% overlap i think , right......?!!?!?
In other words, what this means is that i can give about 8 mock tests in total ( 4 of PowerPrep and 4 of GmatPrep) without getting more than a 15% overlap , right ?!??

@ All Members who have given both these tests !!

Can anyone substantiate this with his/her experience please ??? It will be really a sad state if i see repeat ques in my final mock tests JUST a few days before exams !!!!!

Powerprep has ALOT of overlap with the Official Guide questions. So if you've done the Official Guide questions, you'll see a bunch pop up on the Powerprep exam.

Hi there ....

Thanks for the info ......

Overlapping of OG & powerprep is not a problem since, in any case, I am taking the old powerprep only as an initial indicator ....... So even if some ques are same, i will reduce my time availabilty accordingly!! :)

It is the overlapping of PowerPrep & GmatPrep that is bothering me !!! I Dont want to do the PowerPrep, if, in doing so, i am compromising on the ques of GmatPrep as i wish to take the GmatPrep only a few days before my actual test !!! Please let me know about this aspect if u can !!!

Thanks

According to this information, there is NO overlap between GmatPrep and Powerprep:

I gave the GMATPrep Test 1 twice and there was definitely less than 10% overlap between the two instances. Between PowerPrep and GMATPrep, there is no overlap. However, I found the PowerPrep questions to be relatively easy, so don't know the validity of the same. The surprising thing is my scores on the 4 tests (2 instances of GMATPrep 1, and both PowerPrep tests) gave me a very narrow score range (within 20 points of each other).
